EC Council has partnered with ComGuard to offer accredited courses for regional IT professionals who are looking to protect their organisations from attacks and data loss.

The US based EC Council, (the international council of e-commerce consultants), is a certification body that works in the IT security field, training professionals in the skills required to design, create, manage or market security and e-business solutions. The company recently partnered with ComGuard in order to offer its courses across the region.

"EC Council is recognised globally and within the IT security field. We produce certified professionals including ethical hackers, computer hacking forensics investigators, penetration testers and disaster recovery specialists. Certifications are offered in over 60 countries. We have certified over 21,000 professionals and have trained over 60,000 professionals," explains Sanjay Bavisi, president of EC Council.

We can offer better value to universities across the Middle East. We can do that by providing them with cutting-edge, vendor-neutral security training.

With attacks on financial institutions increasing in the region, and the growing danger of data leakages, IT professionals are having to constantly upgrade their skills. This is where the EC Council hopes to make a difference.

"Security is crucial across all sectors - be that financial or construction and all the ones in between. Judging from the correlation between the number of professionals in the region who are here to guard the huge assets flooding into the Middle East, my impression is that there are still not enough IT security professionals and those present are lagging," says Bavisi.

EC Council chose ComGuard as its partner in spreading its mantra of training and education. Bavisi is very happy with the two organisations' convergent views regarding security and believes the match is a good one.

"Up and till this point we did very sporadic business in the region. ComGuard is very important to us in that we were looking for a partner that had the same genetic composition as we did. This composition is in terms of understanding security and understanding the nature of security education," says Bavisi.

ComGuard is the exclusive distributor for EC Council in this region. It will be distributing the entire academic and professional courseware and certification solutions throughout the Middle East.

Bavisi explains the elements that led to the partnership with ComGuard. "We are obviously the creator and producer of the standards globally. As an international body we do not have the necessary knowledge of the regional market as far as the needs analysis goes, and what different organisations and different verticals require. ComGuard knows what the challenges are and they realise all this stems from a lack of knowledge. It's a perfect fit for both companies to collaborate in bringing these solutions to the Middle East," says Bavisi.

The accreditation body also plans to work with tertiary institutions in the region, enhancing the programmes currently offered. "We can offer better value to these universities by providing cutting-edge, vendor-neutral security training," concludes Bavisi.
