Saudi Arabian Airlines has gone live with a new website, which is intended to offer more services and a richer experience to its customers.

The site, which was developed by US web specialist Vignette, has been launched as part of a drive by the Saudi national carrier to enhance services and improve sales.

The new site includes flight information, online booking and payments, check-in and baggage tracking and supporting services like car hire, hotel information and destination weather reports, and is available in English, French and Arabic.

Hazem Sunbul, manager of Sales Development, Saudi Arabian Airlines said: “Saudi Arabian Airlines recognises that the Web as a key tool in the further growth of the company. We chose Vignette as we wanted to secure our online future and are delighted to offer our customers enhanced services and a comprehensive travel experience.”

The site was designed and implemented by Vignette, using its own Vignette Portal and Vignette Content Management (VCM) solutions.

Ian McEwan, regional vice president, Middle East, Europe and Africa, Vignette commented: “The new online presence for Saudi Arabian Airlines can help establish them as a leader in the Middle East’s travel industry and will give their customers a truly rich and personalised travel experience. This kind of personal and multichannel experience for customers in a social community Web setting can be especially beneficial in the travel industry and Saudi Arabian Airlines is truly leading the way.”

The site design has been up for more than 2 months and its worse than the first one. people give us something that works! it is all broken during heavy traffic you cannot complete reservations, login and do everything your suppose to do, obviously their IT staff have never understood the concept of scaling out and providing a load balance solution, all they think is important is the look and feel. IT staff in Saudia you need some serious schooling!
