AMD has raided HP’s EMEA executive team for the second time in less than six months to bring Alberto Bozzo on board as its corporate VP and general manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Bozzo follows former HP colleague Emilio Ghilardi onto the AMD payroll and will do the job that Ghilardi himself was recruited for in June this year. Ghilardi’s time in the EMEA hot-seat has proved shorter than expected after he was promoted to chief sales officer last week in a corporate re-jig that also saw CFO Bob Rivet named chief operations and administrative officer.

Bozzo’s new role, which he will begin in January, hands him full responsibility for all sales and marketing operations within EMEA. He has more than 20 years of experience to call upon from his time at HP, where he most recently served as VP of the vendor’s multi-billion dollar consumer business unit in EMEA.

“We are pleased to add another seasoned professional to AMD who brings a strong combination of sales, marketing and organisational management experience,” said Ghilardi. “Alberto’s successful consumer and commercial computing record makes him the right person to help AMD execute on its aggressive plans in the strategic EMEA region.”

While AMD has been busy bringing in new faces to its EMEA management set-up, it still hasn’t given any indication of its plans for a new general manager in the Middle East. The chip vendor’s regional business is currently run by distribution boss Abdallah Saqqa on an acting basis following the shock departure of Gautam Srivastava in May.
