Watchdog call to monitor TV, websites for content
Qatar symposium calls for action against media that undermines social, cultural values.
Calls have been made for a regional media watchdog to be set up to monitor and punish satellite TV channels and websites that encourage immorality and undermine local religious, social and cultural values.
A symposium organised by the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Doha urged Qatar and other GCC states to take urgent steps, both at legislative and social levels.
The conference called for the formation of an executive committee at the GCC Secretariat-General to ensure that the recommendations of the symposium are followed up, Qatar daily The Peninsula reported on Tuesday.
Formally closing the conference, Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned, Consort of the Emir of Qatar, said: "I am not only endorsing the recommendations but am also urging those concerned to implement them on a priority basis."
