With just over six weeks to go until the CommsMEA Awards, nominations have been rolling in from telecom players in the Middle East and Africa.

The awards, which recognise excellence across twelve categories in the region’s communications sector, have become an established part of the industry’s calendar in the past few years, with the 2007 edition attracting more than 350 industry specialists.

This year’s awards ceremony will take place at a gala dinner on 15th December at Dubai’s Grand Hyatt hotel, and will be attended by senior executives and personalities from the Middle East and Africa telecommunications industry, as well as several high profile special guests.

A panel of judges, comprising industry experts Milan Sallaba, partner, Oliver Wyman; Jawad Abbassi, founder and general manager, Arab Advisors Group; and Akshay Lamba, leader for strategic businesses at Al Futtaim Technologies has already been appointed to select winners from the nominations in late November.

Among last year’s winners were Roshan, which scooped the Customer Service Provider of the Year award; Qtel was awarded Telecoms Deal of the Year for its acquisition of Wataniya Telecom; and Telecom Egypt, which bagged the Fixed Line Operator of the Year award.

Nominations for the awards will close on 17th November. For further information, visit:
