Sun Microsystems is inviting requests for proposals (RFPs) from existing or prospective partners interested in providing onsite warranty services for its x64 product range.

The server and storage specialist is looking for a service partner capable of logging calls from UAE customers and providing a next-day onsite response, including parts replacement if necessary.

Sun says the offer is open to companies that have what it takes to carry out effective services support on a volume line that it has high expectations for.

“They’d need to have previous service capability or service experience, but we can train the partner if necessary,” said Duncan Colhoun, service partner manager for the Middle East at Sun. “We are looking for somebody with a strong service background, they don’t necessarily need to be a reseller of Sun or any kind of integrator, they just need to have a good helpdesk and on-site support capability.”

Sun is asking resellers and services partners to get in touch with its Middle East services team if they are tempted by the prospect of providing warranty services for the X64 range.

“For them it will provide an additional line of business and obviously we will compensate them on a yearly basis for each machine,” said Colhoun. “It is also a huge area of growth for Sun. We are aggressively targeting the market and looking at increasing sales next year so it is a huge opportunity.”

Sun says the RFP will run for one month so interested parties have until the end of November to submit their proposal.
