After a year's planning the Dubai Municipality IT Department is rolling-out its ambitious Arabian Centre of Excellence (ACE) project.

Andy Evans, ACE programme director for Dubai Municipality's IT Department, says a critical 'success' factor for businesses is to have good risk management processes.

"ACE delivers this and streamlines processes," he says.

The project, based on the IT-Infrastructure Library (ITIL), implements an integrated set of best practices for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of IT services.

These practices will be implemented across the organisation, which will see the Dubai Municipality completely restructure its systems, processes and IT delivery streams to become a leader in IT service management quality.

The ACE service will introduce new standards that Dubai Municipality says will assure the quality of delivered IT-services, which will soon be employed externally by other service providers in the region.

Additionally, the ACE project realises Dubai Municipality as the first government organisation in the Middle East to achieve ISO/IEC 2000 certification, an international standard on IT service management and delivery.

Some of the key ACR objectives, include reducing operational business costs, increasing customer and staff satisfaction, raising business efficiency and reducing staff attrition rates.
