Sun Microsystems chairman and co-founder Scott McNealy has urged Middle East IT industry decision-makers to embrace the benefits of open source software, or risk falling behind other global markets that are rapidly making use of its benefits.

In his keynote address to mark the opening of GITEX Global Conference, McNealy outlined his vision of an industry unshackled from the constraints of proprietary software and called on regional governments to drive OS adoption.
