Dubai Airports has highlighted the importance of exhibitions such as GITEX by stating that information and communication technology is ‘the difference between success and failure’ for airports.

“As a world class international airport our main objective is to provide a safe and secure environment to our customers, and manage growth and capacity while maintaining an unparalleled level of customer service," comments Anita Mehra Homayoun, the vice president, marketing and corporate communications, Dubai Airports.

"The correct utilisation of ICT can have a major influence on traffic, our ability to respond quickly to the changing environment and take the decisions at the right time through access to correct timely information.

For airports, just as for any other industry, ICT can prove the difference between success and failure," she adds.

The aviation and logistics facilitator is a GITEX regular and has returned this year to showcase its range of online services for passengers, airlines, suppliers and strategic partners.

The company is currently completing its migration to providing its services electronically, with 200 e-services available.

Most of the company's services are already available electronically and Mehra indicated that DA was driving to ensure that 100% of its services were migrated to electronic format in the future.Dubai Airports says it was hoping that raising awareness of its range of services will play an important role in the overall development of the UAE.

“Dubai Aiports plays an important role in the growth and development of Dubai and the UAE,” says Mehra.

“As such, our objective is to maximise the spread of awareness about a wide range of online services we offer for individual travellers as well as airlines, travel and tourism agencies among others who deal with the airport.”

The company identifies GITEX’s size as being a particularly crucial factor as to why the show is such an important platform. “[GITEX] is the region’s largest IT exhibition and as such the perfect venue to reach out to customers about our progress in bringing our services online as well as getting acquainted with and sharing expertise and knowledge with the numerous players of the IT industry participating in the expo,” said Mehra.

GITEX exerted considerable influence globally on the ICT market, she says.

"The region’s market for information and communication technology is of great interest to the ICT industry worldwide; the exhibition holds great significance for market players here particularly because the week-long event focuses on the fastest growing segments withtin the ICT industry, namely business solutions, communications technology and consumer electronics," she adds.
