VMware is showcasing a range of virtualisation products on the Aptec stand at Gitex Technology Week, with senior executives available during the event to provide demonstrations.

The company, which already serves companies such as Dubai Islamic Bank, National Commercial Bank and Vodafone Egypt, is predicting a significant increase in market demand within the Middle East.

The forecast has been supported by IDC research, which suggests that 50% of new server acquisitions over the next 12 months will be virtualised.

"In terms of enterprise IT virtualisation, trade reports are indicating a tremendous growth year, which shows that the question is no longer if companies in the Middle East should virtualise, but when and how they should pursue virtualisation," says Ghassan Darri, regional manager for VMware in the Middle East and Africa.

"This will allow them to reap the benefits of simplified IT management, business continuity and disaster recovery, while planning for future growth," he adds.

During GITEX, VMware will provide the region's leading CIOs and IT directors with answers to these questions by demonstrating how to extend the benefits of virtualisation through simplifying the process of server consolidation and giving customers the ability to pool and dynamically allocate applications and power resources.

"In the last five years, a growing number of the Middle East's banks, telecoms operators, and public sector organisations have virtualised their technology environments to maximise IT investment and reduce costs," says Darri.

"Unlike many IT departments around the world, customers in the Middle East are building their data centres from scratch based on virtualisation technology, so it is immediately becoming part of their IT fabric."

VMware offers a range of virtualisation products, from free software for virtualising desktops and servers to comprehensive enterprise-class platforms for optimising data centres and IT infrastructure. The company's flagship products include VMware Infrastructure, VMware ESX, VMware ESXi hypervisor, and VMware VirtualCenter.
