The general manager for Tandberg in the Middle East speaks out about the challenges the company faces as it prepares for GITEX 2008

Identifying ways to boost productivity and efficiency is a major concern for most companies. With businesses increasingly choosing video conferencing and telepresence solutions, looking for ways to cut down on costs, Tandberg is making a name for itself in the Arab world.

Andy Sanctuary, general manager of Tandberg in the Middle East, reveals his company’s plans at GITEX 2008 and the challenges they face in this region.

What do you have planned at GITEX 2008?

Tandberg has recently launched a number of products to add to its total solution portfolio. The new Tandberg Telepresence, and E20 personal Video Phone will be an integral part of the products the company will display this Gitex.

With a completely new stand layout and bigger space, customers will see more video conferencing product solutions and the chance to experience the new Tandberg Telepresence products.


How do you think it will benefit your company?

Gitex is the biggest IT and Telecommunications exhibition attracting a huge number of customer and technology companies from the entire region. With this huge number of visitors, GITEX is becoming a major marketing event for any company in this field assisting greatly in meeting existing and potential customers, while providing more information about the most up-to-date and emerging technology trends.


What is your opinion of the video conferencing market in the region?

The video conferencing market in the Middle East has seen significant growth over the past three years.

As organizations try to cut down costs associated with travel and downtime, and increase their social responsibility by decreasing their carbon footprint, they are turning to video conferencing as a valued solution to address these issues.


What has been the services uptake you’ve experienced so far?

We've seen significant uptake in our solutions considering that we have grown by nearly 100% in sales and revenue over the last two years. This is clearly a sign that the market is maturing.


What are the major challenges the market is facing?

The IT infrastructure is improving significantly in the Middle East. As increased bandwidth becomes more easily available, video conferencing usage and adoption will increase significantly.

Furthermore, the ongoing deregulation in the Middle East will allow for increased awareness and usage in the market.


What is Tandberg’s strategy for the region?

Tandberg is growing significantly in the region with investing in a new office, expanding the Middle East staff and new routes to market.
