LG Electronics has followed up the recent appointment of Digital Technologies as its distribution partner in Lebanon by recruiting local retailer Class to market its GSM phones.

The vendor is keen to ramp up its service levels in Lebanon and believes the addition of Class, which operates eight stores in the country, will allow it to reach more end-users.

“Our partners help deliver our products and experiences to consumers that are in steady demand for such solutions,” stated Mohammad El-Yassir, general manager of LG’s mobile devices unit in the Middle East and Africa region. “Their in-depth knowledge and experience of the telecom industry challenges and opportunities in the local market is an invaluable asset to helping us achieve the goal of LG mobile handsets in Lebanon and the region,” he added.

As a retail partner, Class has the rights to carry the full range of LG mobile products in addition to customer service support. The company will also provide spare parts for all LG handsets.

Mustafa Al Shab, CEO at Class, is confident the partnership will pay off despite the challenges facing the mobile market.

“The local mobile phone market is under increased pressure from a number of factors that compete for users' attention and wallets,” he admitted. “Disposable income is being eroded by rising food and fuel prices and worries about global financial markets and slow economic growth are creating a cautious outlook for the years ahead. Against this backdrop, Lebanon continues to offer tremendous growth potential and we expect highly competitive pricing and innovative service plans to keep the overall mobile market on track.”

Class has been steadily building up its handset portfolio. Last year it struck a ‘strategic retail partnership’ with Motorola to market the vendor’s products to Lebanese customers.
