Electronics and IT provider Samsung has made a move to expand its presence in the Middle East storage market by hiring Active IT Distribution to promote and deliver its memory-based range in the region.

The vendor says Active IT has considerable experience in the storage field and a proven go-to-market strategy that made it the ideal choice for a logistical partner. Samsung hopes that this experience will allow the pairing to capture a “leading stake” in the Middle East and Africa market by the end of the year.

"With the incredible growth of the storage market in the region we found it was necessary to seek out a distribution partner who would be able to partner with Samsung in this market,” said Madhav Narayan, general manager of the IT Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics. "We believe Active IT's unparalleled experience and in-depth understanding of the local market will help us position Samsung as one of the region’s leading storage brands.”

Parvez Ahmed, Active IT’s managing director, claims Samsung is known for cutting-edge storage technology, such as the recent release of its half-terabyte mobile hard-drive, a product that will take a flagship position in the vendors’ play for the Middle East storage market.

Active IT Distribution — which was founded at the start of last year by Ahmed, previously of distribution house Almasa — already has two of the largest memory specialists in its portfolio, Western Digital and Seagate.
