Business intelligence vendor SAS has unveiled a global oil and gas business unit with the aim of catering to the advanced technology needs of the energy industry.

The new division aims to provide support and solutions for oil and gas organisations operating within exploration and production, refineries and downstream operations, enabling customers to maximise performance through more efficient operations.

"With energy demand surging worldwide, oil and gas companies face daunting challenges daily. SAS has worked with oil and gas customers for more than twenty years, and we believe they are anxious to enhance global performance. This industry generates mountains of valuable data that, if analysed and leveraged correctly, could make a significant difference in efficiency and profits," said Frank Mollerop, vice president of SAS's global oil and gas business unit.

"The size of the oil and gas industry in the Middle East alone makes it a key focus region for SAS, and it is our strong belief that our solutions can bring tremendous benefits to oil companies and the regional oil and gas sector at large. Delivering sustainable solutions, which can easily and efficiently be adapted to ever-changing variables is our strategy to build a strong reputation within this industry," commented Peter Venn, business development director for oil and gas at SAS Middle East and Africa.
