Saudi Telecom to cap roaming costs

Saudi Telecom has launched a unified international roaming (UIR) service in 30 countries, where the company will charge only SR1 ($0.26) per minute for receiving calls and SR1.50 for outgoing calls within the countries and to Saudi,

The new service will be commissioned from August 1 and will cover most of the Middle East, Europe, Indonesia, Turkey and South Africa, Saudi daily Arab News reported on Monday.

The first phase of the service will includes mobile operators in the region such as Bahrain’s Batelco, the UAE’s Du and Kuwait’s Wataniya.

The move comes amid customer complaints in the kingdom over the cost of using mobile phones abroad, the newspaper said.
