HP Procurve has just released the 10-GbE X2-SC LRM Optic transceiver. According to the company the transceiver will allow customers to upgrade to 10Gbit on their existing multimode fibre optic infrastructure, providing a cost-effective solution without expensive re-cabling.

The product will, according to HP Procurve, enable organisations to protect their current IT infrastructure investments by extending the distance for 10Gbit connections on legacy multimode fibre optic cables to 220 meters, three times the previous distance.

With the increase of video streaming, schools and campuses require higher bandwidth to support increasing network traffic such as video streaming. With the transceiver resulting in an improved upgrade on the existing multimode fibre, these requirements may be met.

The 10-GbE X2-SC LRM Optic easily installs in X2 slots on most ProCurve switches and is supported by the ProCurve Lifetime Warranty.
