The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) in Jordan has said that the government will not grant cellular phone licences to companies offering a new internet service in the Kingdom, according to a report in The Jordan Times. Fourteen telecommunication firms selling WiMax internet technology have been invited to bid for a contract that will enable them to have sole access to the Jordanian market, according to the report. The winner, however, will not be given a mobile service licence, said TRC chairman Ahmad Hiasat.
