King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology (KACST) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Saudi internet service provider AwalNet to set up a data centre in the Kingdom. KACST and AwalNet will conduct technical and economical feasibility studies with a view to establishing a data centre in Riyadh. Mohammed bin Khalid Al Abdullah Al Faisal, president of Al Faisaliah Group and representative of AwalNet, said the centre would contribute to “expanding the range of information and communication services in the Kingdom, as well as enhancing the quality of such services which are becoming even more crucial with the upcoming launches of e-government programs and the remarkable growth of e-commerce in KSA.” He added that the centre would also help in growing Arabic content on the internet.
