HP ProCurve chief leaves for channel venture

Ivan Kraemer to develop networking joint venture with local company to focus on systems integration

Ivan Kraemer has left his position as regional sales and marketing director at networking vendor HP ProCurve to start a new venture in the Middle East systems integration channel.

"What I am doing is going into a joint venture with an existing local company," explained Kraemer, who has been with HP for fourteen years. "It will be in IT and in the solutions side of the business; it is still in networking and I will still be very much involved with HP."

When the venture gets off the ground - it has a tentative start date of early September - it is likely to be based in Dubai Internet City. Kraemer, however, says that in the short term he might re-locate to Abu Dhabi where he reveals the business partner already has many potential clients.

"Hospitality is a big business here, but in Abu Dhabi it will be the government sector and oil and gas that we target," said Kraemer. "Being a solutions organisation - and the expertise that we have right now - it will be based on networking and storage. Also we have some unique software which has specific solutions in the education and hospitality environment."

According to Kraemer, the main business partner in the venture has been operating in the networking channel for more than two years and boasts a large customer base and expertise, particularly in the education sector.

Kraemer intends to call upon his industry experience to ensure the company stands out from the competition and gives customer a full understanding of how their IT investments can benefit them. "I have been a reseller before, and I have worked for a distributor and for the vendor. At the end of the day we all are customers, and the biggest complaint of customers is that they don't understand what it [solution] is supposed to do for them."
