Qatar Telecom has teamed up with Malaysian company Maxis to launch a 3G roaming service. The operator claimed that the move would enable it to become one of the few companies in the Middle East to offer third-generation roaming services for 3G video calling and 3G data access to its customers. Qatar Telecom, better known as Qtel, has also partially launched roaming services with SK Telecom South Korea, Smart Philippines, Smartone-Vodafone Hong Kong and NTT DoCoMo Japan. “We believe in comprehensive customer service and resolve to make our customers lives easier by being able to serve them wherever they are,” said Sheikh Fahad Bin Jassim Al-Thani, executive director wireless services at Qtel. “Now when travelling on business or pleasure Qtel custom- ers can not only talk and hear, but also see their family and/or business contacts from several countries around the world, thanks to Qtel’s 3G network.” Subscribers to Qtel can send and receive international MMS to and from Batelco Bahrain, Wataniya Kuwait, Mobilecom Jordan, Tunisiana Tunisia, Mobily Saudi Arabia, MTC-Vodafone Bahrain, Telstra Australia and Maxis Malaysia.
