Tandberg is aiming to bring video communications to the desktop, with its new E20 Video VoIP Phone.

The video phone, which is due to ship in Q1 20009, promises CD quality audio with DVD quality video, to provide instant face-to-face conversation to improve the quality of communications.

The E20 includes a five megapixel high resolution camera, which is positioned on the top of the screen to provide an eye-level, head-on image, rather than shot from below. The 10.6" LCD widescreen can display the other person on the call, or can also be used to share multimedia presentations, and all communications are encrypted with the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). For audio, the phone has an ultra wideband 20 kHz speaker phone and 10 kHz handset.

Beau Wardak, general manager, Tandberg Middle East said: "The E20 has the potential to drive mass personalization of video communications in the enterprise. The E20 brings natural communication into workplace conversations with the emotional connection and understanding that is only possible through video."
