Volume IT distributor Almasa has re-hired hard drive business veteran John David to head its components division.

David previously worked for the distributor as product manager for its storage division and according to Almasa was "instrumental" in extending the regional coverage of its HDD product range. He boasts 15 years' experience in the IT industry, and has spent a large element of his career managing start-up operations in the Middle East and Africa.

As the head of the components business, David will oversee relationships with a number of brands including AMD, Seagate and Hitachi.

He claims the Dubai-based distributor's in-country logistics and customer support are among a number of assets that will differentiate the company as the market battles strong competition and rising costs. "The potential for growth is still significant given intense IT spending throughout the region. I look forward to helping the company further and extend its market reach," he added.

Almasa has confirmed that components specialist Vijendra Singh still remains with the company for the time being and will report to David in his role as deputy general manager for components.
