The second Middle East Communications (MECOM) exhibition and conference opened today in Abu Dhabi.

The event, which is being held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, brings together vendors and stakeholders from the region's telecommunications market.

Some 100 exhibitors will be present at the show, along with operators from around the region and telecoms regulation authorities. MECOM also includes the Connect: Strategic Telecoms Summit.

David Hirst, director of MECOM 2008, commented: "The telecoms market in the Middle East has some of the highest growth rates in the world and with liberalisation spreading throughout the region, the environment is ripe for further investment, innovation, and higher usage rates."
