The Middle East operation of ViewSonic spoke out today on upcoming regional developments in the screen market, eager to point out an expected double digit growth rate for the rest of the year.

Aaron Fright, Regional Director of ViewSonic Middle East said: “We anticipate that the LCD display market in the GCC, Levant and North Africa is set for more than 20% growth for the remainder of 2008, as both home users and enterprises invest in larger, more colour-centric, and high definition displays for both personal and professional use.”

Fright went on to warn of the shortages predicted as a result of this, saying that “Panel makers are going to struggle to keep up with market demand at the end of this year.” It's expected that there will be a slight increase in screen prices as a result.

Accompanying data revealed that in recent years the standard regional monitor size has crept up from 17 inches to 19 inches. On a more global scale, 2008 is expected to be the first year when widescreen monitor production supersedes that of standard monitor dimensions.

ViewSonic also showcased their new range of monitors at the roundtable event, including the new VLED221wm. The VLED is Viewsonic’s first attempt at producing a monitor with LED backlighting, something Samsung experimented with in an 82 inch TV at this year’s CeBIT show.

As well as using less power, LED backlighting is more reliable and allows for higher colour saturation. Initial reviews have even called the VLED221’s colour saturation too vivid at 118% of the NTSC standard, and with a pricetag of $700 for a 22 inch monitor the VLED221 may find itself with limited appeal when it launches in the Middle East at the end of this month.

Also on display were ViewSonic’s new range of VX multifunction LCD HDMI monitors and VP ‘Professional’ LCD screens. The 28 inch VX2835wm multifunction LCD screen is capable of 1080p resolution and currently retailing in the UAE for 2800 dirhams. The 22 inch VP2250wb features 106% colour saturation, 2 millisecond response times and 3000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and is currently retailing in the UAE for 2300 dirhams.
