UAE property developer Nakheel has signed BIW Technologies to deliver project management applications through a Software-as-a-Service model.

BIW will provide the online solutions to enable Nakheel and its various partners and contractors to access a single web-based portal for each project, which will then allow complete supply chain and project management from initial design phases through to completion and maintentance.

Nakheel is responsible for some of the leading developments in the UAE, including the Palm trilogy, the World and the Waterfront.

BIW, a global leader in SaaS applications for the architecture, engineering, construction, property and infrastructure sectors

Michaella Kerckhof, chief information officer for Nakheel said: "We wanted a robust, scalable, industry-strength project control system to support the multi-company, multi-disciplinary supply chains involved in designing and constructing our developments. BIW's application suite will complement the powerful system we use to manage our internal business processes, and will support tens of thousands of anticipated users all over the globe."

The provision of the service will be governed by service level agreements to ensure proper delivery of the application. BIW, which opened an office in Dubai in 2006, has also increased its support services and facilities in the UAE to enhance service deliveries, according to Dr Asif Sharif, general manager of BIW Middle East.

"BIW is committing significant development and consultancy resources to meeting Nakheel's exacting requirements. We recently inaugurated a UAE-based hosting facility and brought on-line a dedicated global helpdesk to ensure high levels of service to valued customers such as Nakheel," he said.

PM Hut

This must be one of the most amazing and the biggest projects in the world. I would like to see how the system will handle all these projects efficiently and robustly. One more thing, if anyone has an interesting paper on this particular project, then I am interested in republishing it on PM Hut ( http://www.pmhut.com ).

BSaaS

Someone needs to explain to people just what SaaS means. I am bored with pretenders jumping on board the SaaS model when they clearly don't get it.
