A rundown of the leading IT distribution houses based in Saudi Arabia.

1. BDL Distribution

2007 sales: $143m

In the hotseat: Tamer Ismail

Head office: Riyadh

Speciality: Hardware

Vendor focus: AMD, Asus, Dell, FSC, MSI, Samsung

Background: BDL serves a huge base of IT dealers and boasts five warehouses. With a new office in Dubai and more than 180 employees in Saudi, BDL ranks as one of the leading distributors in the Middle East.

2. Jamal Al-Jassim Electronics Est.

2007 sales: $130m

In the hotseat: Sherif Nasr Khattab

Head office: Dammam

Speciality: Hardware

Vendor focus: Creative, D-Link, LG, Tripp Lite

Background: Although it has largely been seen as an LG-focused company, the established Al-Jassim is now branching out with new vendors. The firm is also known for its PC Net brand.

3. Advanced Integrated Media (AIM)

2007 sales: $93m

In the hotseat: Bassam Abu Baker

Head office: Riyadh

Speciality: Hardware and computer accessories

Vendor focus: HP, Microsoft

Background: AIM employs around 50 people and sells to an active reseller base that spans more than 250 accounts. The company is a key HP distributor and belongs to the powerful NTG Group.

4. Al-Jammaz Telecom

2007 sales: $58m

In the hotseat: Asim Al-Jammaz

Head office: Riyadh

Speciality: Networking

Vendor focus: Cisco, Linksys, Microsoft, Mitel, Sun

Background: As a major Cisco and Sun player, Al-Jammaz is one of the leading value added distributors in Saudi Arabia. Last year PC vendor Acer also recruited Al-Jammaz for its reach in the commercial sector.

5. Al Nahil Computers

2007 sales: $33m

In the hotseat: Suliman Al Khodair

Head office: Riyadh

Speciality: Systems

Vendor focus: HP, Fujitsu Siemens, Western Digital

Background: Nahil is a company with a rich HP and Compaq heritage, but added FSC to its stable last year. The firm serves customers through six branches and boasts extensive SMB coverage.
