wi-tribe, the joint venture between Qatar Telecom and ATCO of Saudi Arabia, has chosen Aptilo’s Mobile WiMAX AAA Connectivity Service Network (CSN) platform for its planned WiMAX deployments across the Middle East and Asia Pacific region.

The CSN will provide a range of service management functions for wi-tribes wireless broadband data and voice services.

The first wi-tribe deployments is to take place in Jordan in the second quarter of this year.

wi-tribe Jordan CEO, Dr Bassam Hannoun, said: “We are pleased to be the first operation to launch within the wi-tribe group. Our team in Amman has been working closely with Aptilo to provide the best customer experience. Our main aim as we launch in Jordan is to cater to the needs of our potential customer base.”

Another wi-tribe WiMAX network in Pakistan is scheduled to go live later in the year.

The triple-A in Aptilo’s connectivity service network platform stands for ‘Authentication, Authorisation, Accounting’. Aptilo claims the platform’s AAA Proxy functionality allows service providers to manage interactions with multiple servers and roaming partners.

Aptilo’s CSN platform also boasts combinations of time-based, price-based and volume-based subscriber accounts for varying business models.

Group chief executive officer of wi-tribe limited, Dr Sami Hinedi, said: “Aptilo has a solid track record for successful commercial wireless broadband deployments and WiMAX… In addition, Aptilo’s interoperability with leading WiMAX vendors means we are well poised for future growth, and to leverage new services for our customers moving forward.”
