Egyptian financial provider Banque Misr has selected CA's Threat Management software to protect its systems and data from a range of external threats, including viruses and malware.

Sherif Mohsen Abdel Fattah Shaitout, chief information security officer at Banque Misr described anti-virus protection as being core to the profitability and reputation of his bank: "With the CA Threat Management solution we have minimised the disruption caused by viruses and malware. This means we can provide better service to our customers and continue to develop innovative offerings that help boost the Egyptian economy."

As part of its declared program of technological improvement, Banque Misr has begun migrating to a centralised infrastructure and services based on ITIL frameworks.

"The security risks to the business are heightened by the fact that we have one data centre with all client devices linked directly to our network. Previously, we could deal with a security breach locally, safe in the knowledge that it could be contained. Now, a virus could quickly spread across the entire network. The CA Threat Management solution provides us with access to regular virus updates and has helped to secure our infrastructure," says Shaitout.

The Threat Management system has been deployed at 4,000 desktops and 200 PDAs in Banque Misr, protecting the enterprise against worms, trojans, viruses and malware. Since its deployment, Shaitout notes a significant drop in virus and malware incidents at the bank, while also enabling the bank to meet regulatory and industry requirements.

"Prior to implementing CA Anti-Virus, every single PC at the bank had been infected at some point. On some occasions it had inadvertently been transmitted to our partners, damaging our reputation and business. We now have a robust, multi-layered approach to security and can protect the business against current and future threats," he adds.
