Russian authorities carried out a raid on IBM’s Moscow office earlier this month as part of an investigation into the company’s operations.

An armed forces team swept through IBM’s offices, seizing documents and other evidence, according to sources. The officials wore masks and carried machine guns, a blogger working at the office said.

The Russian Interior Ministry is understood to be investigating a US$4million computer equipment kickback scheme involving IBM employees and employees of Russia's national pension fund.

“To embezzle the allotted funds, a number of high-ranking [pension] officials responsible for conducting tenders for equipment purchases conspired criminally with representatives of the commercial companies,” the ministry stated according to an agency report.
