du and Microsoft have announced a new competition to encourage mobile phone application development in the UAE.

The 'Let your dream mobile application out' is open to all college and university students in the UAE, and will focus on ideas for applications relating to social networking, lifestyle and environment. Five winners will each receive AED 2,000 worth of vouchers for electronics retailer Plug-Ins.

The competition is being run in association with the du-Microsoft .Net Club, an initiative to educate and involve university students with the technology sector.

Osman Sultan, CEO du commented: "Education and career is something we consider an important responsibility. The du-Microsoft .Net Club initiative, co-partnered with Microsoft, has gathered momentum over the past year and is set to play a significant role in providing students with access to career forming opportunities. We have designed this competition to make students a part of the telecom revolution sweeping the UAE. They not only get to showcase their potential but also get recognition and rewards to catapult them into the big league in mobile application development."
