Server vendor Sun Microsystems has named a new Europe, Middle East and Africa boss after a lengthy recruitment search. Alain Andreoli has been appointed senior vice president for the region, which accounts for 40% of the company's overall business.

Andreoli, who most recently served as CEO of electronic solutions and network management company cc-hubwoo, has more than 25 years' technology, sales and leadership experience. He has also worked as general manager for the EMEA region for Texas Instruments and StorageTek where he served as corporate VP and general manager of international operations.

"Throughout his career, Alain has consistently delivered superior business results and I'm confident he'll do the same at Sun," said Don Grantham, executive VP for global sales and services at Sun. "Alain's strong sales track-record and customer service experience is second to none. As we continue to execute on our plan for sustained growth and profitability, Alain's extensive sales leadership and proven ability to deliver superior value to customers and partners will be a huge asset."

The hiring of Andreoli follows the promotion of EMEA boss Peter Ryan to senior VP for global sales for the Americas earlier this year. For the last five months, whilst the search for a new SVP was carried out, the server vendor's EMEA operations have been overseen by Crawford Beveridge, executive VP and chairman of EMEA, APAC and the Americas.
