Panasonic has launched what it describes as the next generation of Blu-ray disc player, the DMP-BD10A.

The DMP-BD10A features enhanced 7.1 channel surround sound, dolby HD and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio decoding technology.

Panasonic is one of the developers of the Blu-ray standard, which is competing with HD-DVD to become the definitive format for next generation HD discs. Blu-ray sales have surpassed sales of HD-DVD in many markets, in part due to the success of Sony' Playstation 3, which comes with a built in Blu-ray player.

Yasuo Kimoto, product manager, Panasonic Marketing Middle East, said: "Panasonic is deeply committed to the success of Blu-ray. High definition entertainment is a truly unique experience and nothing powers the HD experience like Blu-ray.

"With the continuing flow of hit movie titles on Blu-ray, combined with aggressive pricing and the increasing awareness of consumers about the unique entertainment experience provided by high definition, the future looks very bright for Blu-ray", he added.
