Networking vendor Juniper Networks has announced the launch of its Partner Solution Development Platform (PSDP). The platform - which the company claims is in an industry first - enables partners and customers in the Middle East to create specialised applications on its Junos software.

Juniper also states that with the new solution platform "partners can accelerate innovation for the deployment of new revenue-generating services that are unique to their business, while improving network operations productivity".

David Small, channel VP EMEA at Juniper Networks, says that the tools the PSDP offers partners - including a software development kit - gives greater choice and control in designing, developing and deploying specialised applications such as event-optimised routing, customised bandwidth management and extended operations toolsets.

"The MENA region is seeing both an increased demand for locally-developed networking applications that fit specific regional business needs as well as robust growth in application development from the GCC through to the Levant and Egypt," Small said.

Partners wishing to make use of the PSDP will have to sign up to an annual licensing programme through which they will gain access to Juniper's Open IP Solution development Programme. The scheme will also offer them technical and business support. Inaugural partners that have joined the programme include vendors Aricent and Avaya.

Channel Middle East recently reported that Juniper Networks had issued an edict to its distributors telling them that they needed to up their game and focus more on selling solutions.
