FibreHome, a fibre optic specialist based in China, has established a joint venture with Ascend Technologies, a Bahraini communications integrator, to help drive its business in the region.

The joint venture, which has already started projects in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria and Algeria, aims to become a leading provider of network products for telecom operators and enterprises in the region.

Among the company's products are high-speed broadband optical transmission systems, fibre optic broadband access systems, IP network routing and switch systems. The company is developing labs at its base in Bahrain, which will allow it to demonstrate the latest technologies such as FTTx (fibre-to-the-x), to its clients.

"We have aggressive plans that we will hopefully fulfill," said Fawzi Shehabi, managing director, FibreHome Middle East. He added that although the company already works for some of the major telecom operators in the region, it also plans to extend its client base into other areas of the communications sector.
