AMD seeking out channel partners

Chip giant AMD has revealed that it will be launching a new channel partner scheme into the Middle East within the next few months.

Chip giant AMD has revealed that it will be launching a new channel partner scheme into the Middle East within the next few months. Offering an array of benefits to channel partners, the initiative will give assemblers and resellers access to stronger levels of support.

Gaith Kadir, general manager, AMD Middle East and Africa (MEA), said: “We’re rolling out a tiered channel programme worldwide. In the Middle East we’re taking that programme and will apply it to our region.

“The programme will be launched here in the Middle East at the beginning of 2007. We aim to contribute to our partners’ success and work towards empowering them by providing them with access to information and support.”

According to Kadir, the new channel programme aims to generate commitment to the partner as well as from them. AMD will classify its partners into platinum, gold and silver tiers and each will have its own advantages and criteria.

Felipe Payet, head of channel marketing development at AMD’s server and workstation business segment, claimed that channel partners would be provided with the same level of information and new technology that is available to global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Payet commented: “It works in two different ways. Firstly, it provides incentives for the partners to do business with AMD — the more business they do with us the more benefits they will receive. Secondly, it helps them grow because it gives them access to development funds, collateral that we provide to support them, participation in joint events and access to AMD employees, senior executives and people like myself, to help them with training.”
