Oman plans to allow companies to resell mobile telephone services offered by the country's two operators through pre-paid cards, potentially lowering call costs, the official Oman News Agency reported.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority will licence an "infinite number" of companies to buy airtime from Oman Mobile and Nawras at wholesale prices, the agency said on Friday.

Oman Telecommunications Co. <OTL.OM> (Omantel) owns Oman Mobile and Nawras is a subsidiary of Qatar Telecommunications Co <QTEL.QA>.

"The initiative may lead to lower rates..." the agency said. Oman said last month it was preparing sell shares in Omantel to a long-term investor. (Reuters)
