NMC Specialty Hospital in Abu Dhabi, has completed deployment of a new high bandwidth network, to support its advanced medical applications.

The Nortel-based network was planned by NMC's in-house IT arm, Reliance Infotech, and deployed by Alpha Data. The LAN has over 1,000 access points, spread over a new 12 storey hospital building and four existing buildings that are linked with to the core by fibre backbone.

NMC is running a Hospital Information System, Document Management System and Picture Archival and Communication System and other applications, all of which created a demand for a high bandwidth network.

Sandeep Kokroo, networks manager at Alpha Data, stated: "NMC's core requirement was for a reliable network that could support its new services. We worked closely with our partner, Nortel, in order to provide NMC with the latest in network technologies."

NMC selected Nortel solutions for the network because of its high performance, scalability, warranty terms and price, according to a statement from Alpha Data.
