du’s sales revenue up by 36%

UAE operator expands customer base to reach 21% of the country’s population.

The UAE's second telecom operator, du, increased its net sales revenue by 36% in the third quarter of the year, reaching AED412 million (US$112 million), compared to AED302 million in the second quarter, the company announced in its financial results ended September 30, 2007.

du's total nine-month revenue to September 30, 2007 was AED898 million, an increase of 196% compared with the equivalent period last year.

du attributes its growth to new mobile customers and the servicing of its existing customer base; the company's mobile customer base now exceeds 880,000, which represents about 21% of the UAE population. Revenues have also grown on the back of the company's expansion into fixed line, broadband and paid TV business.

"du's strategy of launching new products and services in the telecom market has enabled us to substantially expand our subscriber base and we will continue to innovate and bring to market many new products over the coming months to live up to the expectations of consumers and shareholders, " said Osman Sultan, CEO, du.

Capital expenditure in the first nine months of the year was AED1,294 million, much of which was invested in the expansion of du's mobile network. In addition, du's retail presence was increased with the opening of new du shops, bringing the total number of outlets across the UAE to 16.
