Bahraini telco operator Batelco is gearing up for the rollout of its 3.5G W-CDMA/HSDPA mobile network.

The company has invested $13.5 million in the new network, which it plans to launch nationwide this quarter, according to a report in the Bahrain Tribune.

"We are currently conducting 3.5G trials and we look forward to providing a world class 3.5G experience in the near future for the Kingdom of Bahrian," Batelco Networks general manager Ebrahim Zainal, said in an e-mailed statement to ITP.net.

Zainal said Batelco is working with telephone equipment maker Ericsson, its existing provider in Bahrain, as its technology partner for the 3.5G project.
