Microsoft has been giving Middle East gamers an early look at Halo 3, the next installment in its popular game series, due for launch tomorrow.

At an invitation only event in Dubai yesterday, Microsoft presented a preview of the game, and gave gamers the opportunity to test it out in both single and multiplayer modes.

Halo 3 will launch in the US today, and the EMEA region on Wednesday, with Middle East shoppers able to buy from stores on Wednesday morning. The launch is being touted by Microsoft as the third big media launch of the year, alongside the release of the third Spiderman movie and the publishing of the final book of the Harry Potter series.

Over 1.4 million copies of the game have been pre-ordered worldwide, and Microsoft expects sales of the game to exceed $150 million in the first 24 hours of availability. The launch of Halo 2 in November 2004 saw sales of over $125 million in the first day, and around 14.8 million copies of Halo and Halo 2 have been sold in total.

The latest chapter of the series, developed by Bungie Software, sees the return of main character Master Chief, in a final battle to protect the entire universe from destruction by the alien Covenant.
