Gulf computer sales rise nearly 30% in Q2

Sales up in UAE, Saudi and Bahrain, but down in Oman and Kuwait, according to latest figures from IDC.

Sales of desktops, notebooks and servers in the Gulf rose 29% in the second quarter of 2007 over the second quarter of 2006, according to figures from market research firm IDC cited by Gulf News.

Growth was led by the UAE, which recorded a 43% rise in computer sales and 287,000 units sold, the newspaper reported.

Saudi Arabia and Bahrain also recorded high double-digit growth, according to the report.

Sales were down in other parts of the Gulf, however, falling 15% in Oman and 4% in Kuwait while near flat in Qatar, according to the report.
