Value added distributor and networking services outfit FVC has bagged a deal with British American Tobacco (BAT) to supply a series of high-end conferencing products.

The company will deploy vendor partner Polycom's HDX 9000 high-definition video conferencing solution across 11 offices within its Middle East, Caucasus and North African operations.

The countries covered under the agreement include the UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Algeria, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Egypt.

"FVC was the right partner to deliver the most optimum solution with the new Polycom HDX high definition video conferencing packages at a regional level across all our offices in two areas," said Mohammed Pharaon, customer service manager Middle East, Caucasus and North Africa for BAT.

"BAT is globally deploying video conferencing solutions to increase communications and reduce travel costs. We evaluated various solutions on offer at Polycom and decided that the future is in HDX, not only because of its high definition but because of its scalability," he added.

FVC, which boasts points of presence in Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, the UK and the UAE, intends to complete the project by the end of November.

The Polycom HDX solution is based on the vendor's ‘UltimateHD' architecture, the foundation for what it claims is the industry's only integrated and complete HD video collaboration offering that includes video systems, video multipoint control units and HD recording.

FVC and Polycom have also combined to net a contract in the Qatari education sector during the past month.

Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in Qatar will implement Polycom ‘RealPresence', reportedly crowning it the first university in the Middle East to adopt immersive telepresence video conferencing as an educational tool.

"We are working closely with TechnoQ, Polycom's certified reseller in Qatar," explained KS Parag, regional director at FVC, which also works with brands such as Packateer, Postini and TippingPoint. "Together, we will implement the solution and provide the on-going customer support."
