What is your career history to date?

I graduated with a degree in science and a postgraduate in business management. I started my career with a computer company in Japan and I got my international experience from there. Working out there I learnt the Japanese way of business. Then, in 1994, I moved to Dubai to start my own company. I had come to visit once before and I liked the place, it was developing and there was potential, so I decided to settle here and set up Experts Computer.

What do you enjoy most about working in the Middle East IT market?

The Middle East market is one of the most dynamic, growing at a very fast pace. Dubai is in the most strategic location and it caters to the East African and Asian markets too. I enjoy that the consumers are well versed with technology and open to new innovations.

What do you dislike most about working in the Middle East IT market?

The most important negative aspect is credit terms. It looks like most distributors encourage resellers to take credit from them, which often ends up with the reseller running into trouble, having to close their shop and leave the country. This has been the case for the last 14 or 15 years.

Which IT industry figure do you admire and why?

Steve Jobs is a visionary. He's changed the outlook of the whole industry. He's shown the entire IT industry how to merge with consumer electronics, bringing out the iPod and iPhone. All his products incorporate IT, and he's changed the entire industry. There are many companies, especially in the Far East, surviving purely by producing accessories for the iPod.

How would you describe your management style?

I have an open door policy and take a consultative approach; anybody is welcome to sit down and share any ideas or opinions with me. I believe that for any company to succeed, the ability to put together a good team is important.

What is the proudest moment of your career to date?

In 1994 I set up Experts Computer here in Dubai, that was a very proud moment and very recently we have set up the Dubai Computer Traders Group and I've been elected as the president of the group, which is another achievement I'm very proud of.

What is the best deal you have ever closed?

A few years ago, World Bank issued a global tender from Africa for one of our Epro range of products and there were a huge number of companies from all over the world challenging for that deal.

How do you like to relax outside of the work environment?

I try to spend as much time as possible with my wife and two children. I feel that's the best way to relax. We take a family vacation together at least twice or three times a year. I also used to play badminton, particularly when I was in Japan and India.
