Datacard Group has selected GITEX Technology Week to launch its range of "market-of-one" personalised card printing solutions to the Middle East's finance and public sectors.

"An interesting trend that's been gathering pace the world over, is that banks want to offer their clients more tailored, personalised services. One extension of this is that each customer should be able to choose the image printed on their credit cards," explains Wim Tappj Gielen, senior vice president, global sales and marketing, Datacard Group.

"Previously this may have been prohibitively expensive, but with the technology we're displaying at GITEX, this is very much a viable option now," adds Gielen.

The German-owned company expects to see governmental and public sector officials from across the region at this year's event and hopes to build on existing contracts.

"Datacard Group already provides several national ID cards, and the UAE driving licenses, but the region is very advanced-thinking and there are plenty more applications for us to co-operate with regional governments" says Gielen.

The advent and wider roll-out of smart-card technology is something the company is confident the region will see more of in the future.
