Storage hardware leader Seagate launched a wide range of products for businesses and consumers at GITEX Technology Week, to address the increasing demand to store and protect growing levels of data.

The company debuted nine new products, including the first 1 terabyte hard drive with full disc encryption, mobile one-touch back-up solutions and 1 terabyte drives for digital surveillance and home entertainment systems.

A selection of the new products are on show around GITEX, with key Seagate partners including Mindware, Aptec, Logicom, Al Masa and Delta Business Products.

Speaking at the launch, Marc Jourlait, VP for Global Marketing, Seagate said: "What we are seeing at the moment is just the tip of the iceberg for storage. Every home now has a digital camera, HD video, digital music - but where do you store all this data, how do you share it? For the first time ever, there is more storage in the home than in business.

"Consumers are generating highly personal, irreplaceable content, and they need simple to use, comprehensive, secure storage solutions that can help safeguard that content and make it available anytime anywhere. Security, data protection and simplicity are integral to the powerful products and solutions Seagate is delivering," Jourlait added.

In the security sector, Seagate drives now include features such as AES 128 bit encryption of the whole drive, pre-boot authentication, quick erase to securely retire and reuse drives and passwords that are stored in separate partitions so they are not accessible through the OS.

Seagate also believes that the expected growth in the flash storage market will prove lucrative. The vendor will begin shipping solid state drives in 2008, and Jourlait said that Seagate's expertise in rotating drives and previous support for solid state will give it a commercial edge in the market.
