The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the IT Department of the Year and CIO of the Year awards. These categories recognised the very best of the region's professionals, going to Dubai Bank, and Mohammad Al-Khatib of Amman Stock Exchange respectively.

The aim of the Awards is to recognise those IT professionals and organisations that are really making technology work - delivering on the promise of bringing real value to the business using IT. For these individuals and companies working day-to-day to deliver this value, the Middle East's current dramatic growth can seem a daunting challenge, as well as a huge opportunity.

"While it is easy for armchair observers to read about double- or triple-digit growth, there is nothing easy about it for the organisations on the front line that are actually achieving it. What's more, delivering massive growth is only half the job - the next challenge is to manage this growth," said Marney.

"When this involves evolving an entire organisation while maintaining service levels - this becomes a major undertaking. But enterprises - both in the region and globally - have a powerful tool at their disposal when it comes to both driving growth and managing it: technology," he added.

Other highlights from the evening included Doha Bank walking away with the Banking & Finance Implementation of the Year trophy, for its e-commerce portal project, as well as Saudi Arabia's Supreme Commission for Tourism taking home the Government Sector Implementation of the Year award for its contact centre implementations.

The evening also saw awards go to leading players Cisco, Etisalat and ITQAN, as the Enterprise Vendor, Service Provider, and Systems Integrator of the Year, respectively.

ACN Arab Technology Awards - Acknowledgements

The ACN team received 75 entries across the 14 award categories handed out last night - by any standard there were some truly impressive nominations.

The award organisers would like to thank all those that put both the time and effort into pulling together the nominations.

Thanks go as well to the ACN Arab Technology Awards judging panel, who patiently worked through all 75 nominations throughout August. This year, the judging panel included:

Todd McGregor, MD of Forrester Middle East, Mohammed Shah, CTO at Al Madinah Economic City, and Alistair Sinclair, CIO of Mashreq.

All three judges brought their considerable expertise and regional knowledge of the enterprise IT sector to the Awards and the ACN team is honoured to have had them serve as the judging panel.

Last but not least, thank you to our sponsors: Etisalat, Nokia, Avaya, Hitachi Data Systems, FVC and Xerox.
