Gadget fans need wait no longer - GITEX Shopper, the retail component of the regional ICT trade show, is officially open for business.

The show, the largest technology retail event in the Middle East, which takes place at Airport Expo in Dubai, was inaugurated today.

With over 170 exhibitors taking part, the show will cover the full range of consumer electronic goods from laptops and PCs to mobile phones and cameras, according to the organisers.

More than 20,000 products will be on display with one of the star attractions being Microsoft's latest games console Xbox 360 Elite.

Helal Saeed Al Marri, director general of Dubai World Trade Centre, organiser of the show, said the region's flourishing economy boded well for the event's success.

"The region's continuing economic growth combined with the development of the consumer electronic industry have set the scene for a truly exceptional edition of the show," he said.

GITEX Shopper runs 6-12 September.

The show is held in association with GITEX Technology Week, which consists of GITEX Business Solutions, GulfComms and Consumer Electronics.

GITEX Technology Week begins in two days time taking place at Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Last year's GITEX Shopper attracted a total of 132,327 visitors and resulted in sales in excess of $22.8 million.
