Dubai-based trade show GITEX will have its biggest ever international delegation at this year's show, organisers Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) announced yesterday.

Companies from 82 different countries will attend the 2007 edition of the show, which kicks off in four days time, in comparison to representation from 79 different countries at the show last year.

Bulgaria, Chile and Greece will all for the first time send representation to the show this year.

There will be 28 national pavilions at GITEX 2007 with Italy and Bulgaria both taking pavilions for the first time.

China will have the largest pavilion with 115 companies attending including Maxin Technology Limited and Dalian Fujisan Office Equipment Company.

Egypt and Lebanon, meanwhile, will offer a strong regional representation, each having 28 companies in their pavilions.

"GITEX has over the years consistently facilitated new business opportunities and partnerships for the participating international ICT community," said Helal Saeed Al Marri, director general, Dubai World Trade Centre. "We are confident this presentation of GITEX Technology Week, with the new customer-focussed initiatives will create even more business value for all participants."

The show, which is in its 27th edition this year, will have 3,300 companies participating in total with over 572 of these participating for the first time.

The number of international exhibitors coming to the show has risen rapidly over the past few years confirming the position of GITEX as the leading technology event in the region and one of the top three ICT events in the world.

The number of countries attending the event this year is nearly double that of just three years ago when 41 different countries took part.

The show, which has been rebranded this year as GITEX Technology Week, consists of three elements: GITEX Business Solutions, GulfComms, and Consumer Electronics.

It runs from 8-12 September at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The retail element of the show, GITEX Shopper, which takes place at the Airport Expo Dubai, has a slightly earlier start date of 6 September.
