Lleida.net, the first Spanish SMS carrier, is returning for its third visit to GITEX Technology Week. The firm is the largest SMS operator in Spain, having achieved a leading position in providing short and multimedia messaging services through the development of its own platform.

Lleida.net is here at the show to launch two products, its Virtual SMS Handset and its Checker software. The handset is used for bi-directional communication between PCs, using just an internet connection and handset.

"With the Virtual SMS Handset, you can send SMS messages through the internet and receive, for some destinations, an instant reply to your computer. It can be used in three ways - as a downloadable software, via the web or integrated in the system's partner," says Aghbalo Fouad, the firm's international director.

"Checker software meanwhile gives you three things: an update of the terminal status before routing SMS, MMS or voice traffic; an update of databases of mobile numbers to avoid the unnecessary cost of sending SMS to non-existent customers; and an update due to portability of number carriers to choose the best route at a reasonable cost," he adds.

"The Middle East is an interesting market and we are here to find partners for all kinds of SMS business," Fouad concludes.
