The National Bank of Dubai has launched an Arabic version of its online banking service making it the first bank in the UAE to offer online banking in both English and Arabic, according to the company.

Mustapha Ramzi, head of direct banking at the National Bank of Dubai, which has offered an online banking service since 2003, says there it has witnessed a high demand for an Arabic platform.

"People like to be able to do transactions in their own language," he told ITP.net.

The number of people doing transactions online as increased dramatically over the past five years, Ramzi added. Approximately 65% of customers at National Bank of Dubai use the electronic channel instead of visiting branches, he said.

"The numbers [of people doing their banking online] are doubling year by year. In fact, they are tripling," Ramzi said.

Online banking enables customers to perform a variety of transactions including balance enquiries, transaction enquiries, transfers, and bill payments.
